Description:
ECHOES OF TRADITIONS & BEATS OF SOUTH – celebration of South India’s rich cultural heritage through the art of dance. This year, our theme is “Celebrating the Lesser-Known Folk Dances of South India,” with a special focus on the folk dances of Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Our aim is to spotlight the unique and mesmerizing folk dances from these states, providing a platform for students to showcase their talent and deepen their appreciation for our diverse cultural traditions.
Students can choose any one of the states and the folk-dance style mentioned below –
- Andhra Pradesh/Telangana – Dhimsa Dance, Lambadi Dance, Kollatam, Gobbi Dance, Mathuri Dance
- Tamil Nadu – Kurathi Dance, Kavadi Dance, Karakattam Dance, Pulliattam, Kummi Dance
- Kerala – Kalam Paattu, Kaikottikali, Nadanpattu, Nadodi Nritham, Any tribal folk dances of kerala
Judgement Criteria:
- Choreography and creativity
- Presentation and Coordination
- Usage of Props
- Choice of Music and Dance forms
- Energy and Audience engagement
General Rules:
- This is a group event for the students of Grade 9-12
- Each school can have only one team of 8 participants
- Participants must choose a song in the language of the state they represent.
- Instrumental music suitable for the chosen dance form can be used.
- Time limit for the presentation is 5+1 mins.
- Introducing the chosen dance form by the team is compulsory.
- Usage of properties are allowed.
- To ensure compliance with the theme, participants should dress modestly and appropriately.
- Judges’ decision is final.
